Erwin Scheltjens (born 21 September 1976) obtained a Master’s degree in clarinet, chamber music and orchestral conducting at LUCA School of Arts in Leuven. He conducted musical productions as ‘Doornroosje’, ‘Sneeuwwitje’ en ‘Kuifje’. He was consecutively teacher, coordinator and director of the Academy in Lier, where he also set up the education programme 'conducting instrumental music'. Now he works for the Flemish education inspectorate.
Since 2003 Erwin Scheltjens conducts the Wind Orchestra of the University of Leuven. Together with Erwin Scheltjens the orchestra became provincial champion in superior division, performed concerts with renowned soloists as Jan Smets (solo trombone Muntschouwburg) and Jef Neve (jazz pianist). Other highlights were the first Vlamo Open Wind Orchestra Championship, the Italian competition Flicorno d’Oro en the European Music Festival for Young People, where the orchestra received the first prize Summa Cum Laude.
